Welcome
to the Icehouse Quilt Shop! One of our most asked
questions is usually "where did you get the name?" Well
we are located in a turn of the century building that was once
an icehouse. The trains still pass behind our building each day
and our Christmas Lodge is located in the ice
storage building where harvested ice was brought in from the nearby
lakes. Opened as a quilt store in 1980 by Jill Wyman and her husband
Dave, the store has been a haven to quilters for 20 years.
The store had an expansion in 1988 and it now houses the Christmas
Lodge, a gift area, pattern room, fabric room and large classroom
in over 3,000 square feet. Always a large selection
of all the favorite fabric lines and designers, we are never ones
to not try something new and distinctive. You will always find
your favorite designers, but we often have the very unusual pieces
as well.
We
have friendly, encouraging staff who will do everything possible
to see that your needs are met and that you leave with a smile.
In fact, everyone on staff was once a customer! That is probably
one of the best compliments I could have! People are never sure
which one of us owns the store because the staff are all in the
know and take great care at what they do.
We
sure do like to redecorate and you'll notice that whether you
are a customer or an "internet" customer because we
change our displays often to keep things fresh and new. With over
150 different classes offered each year, from both guest and house
teachers, you are sure to find the very latest in quilting and
doll classes offered, as well as the classics from yesteryear
done by hand. Hand work is very popular now as are the quilt retreats
that we specialize in.
