Dear Friends,
It’s hard to believe fall is almost here, especially when it’s
90 degrees out today. School is about to start and we’ll get back to
a routine in our lives. Cody is a freshman this year, that’s also hard to believe. He had his first high school football game last week, before we know it he’ll be graduating. Fall is also the perfect time to get those machines and projects back out and start working on them. We have some great classes and events planned, so be sure to read through the whole newsletter, you don’t want to miss anything.
Our class Open House is September 11th from 11-2. This is the perfect time to see all of the models from the classes and to receive a savings off of class supplies when you sign up this day. Margie is teaching another Quick Quilts class, this is the perfect class for the beginner. So if you’re ready to learn to quilt this is the class for you. Margie is teaching several other classes too, so be sure to check them out. Georgette has some wonderful classes also, such as the Double Wedding Ring, Drunkard’s Path and the popular Quilt As You Go. As requested, Lynn is teaching the Garden Party Jacket again as well as a couple of embroidery classes. Lynn is also teaching a few new techniques, check out her samples at the open house. All of these would make great Christmas gifts. Nancy Schwalm is back teaching a hand quilting class and a hand applique class. It’s great to have her back
teaching and working, we missed her. Nancy Webster is still heading up The Digitizing Divas, The Embroiders Extraordinaire Club as well as teaching an embroidery retreat in October. Everyone here is busy, busy, busy. There’s no excuse for cabin fever this fall and winter. Don’t forget Grayling’s Harvest fest in October and The Christmas Walk in November. We have a “lock in” planned in December to finish up all of those Christmas
projects. The Mind, Body and Sew retreat in October. I told you we’ve been busy. Come join us for some fun.
Again I’d like to thank all of you for your support over the last 30 years, we wouldn’t be here without our loyal customers. Of course the Great staff helps too. I’d like to thank all of them also. Have a great fall And lets get started on those projects.
Blessings

January 2011 Icehouse Retreat
with Sue Nickels
Folk Garden Borders:
Design and Machine Appliqué Techniques
All levels welcome
January 6-9, 2011
$200 @ Days Inn
I am so excited to present 2011 Icehouse Retreat. We will start Thursday evening with our wonderful snacks~treats, then our introductions (bring a show & tell- either something from a previous SN retreat or some of your own work to share, then a recap of my 2010 adventures and then a preview of what we will be working on for the retreat.
In this retreat workshop, learn Sue’s Stitched Raw Edge appliqué technique while creating a folk garden border inspired from Sue’s Quilt “Blue Tulips on Pink Skies”. Nineteenth century folk art quilts were the influence for this completely machine made quilt. Learn all the details of the technique including bias stems, points and circles. Make your quilts spectacular by adding beautiful appliqué borders. Project can be the start of the quilt or a border for your quilt or can be made into a small runner… We will start with a demo on how I design my own unique borders and you can choose to create your own design, use one of my patterns or a little of both!
