Annual Icehouse Staff Retreat February 19-21 The Icehouse will be closed these days for our annual staff retreat. This is a time for all of us to get away together and have a great time. We even get some sewing done! We’ll be back on the 22nd refreshed and ready to show off our projects. National Quilting Day March 17th
National Quilting Day celebrates fabulous quilts and those who make them. Celebrated on the 3rd Saturday in March, quilting is no longer just a ladies hobby. Quilting is a skill that produces warm and beautiful results. Today is a day to recognize and appreciate the quilt makers, the skill and the warmth that are the results. If you are a quilt maker, spend a minute to recognize and appreciate that you have truly been blessed with a special skill. Come in to the Icehouse and receive 20% off your quilting supplies. Christian Help Center Food Drive March 26-31 We give thanks for all we have but at this time of year there are many that are not as fortunate. The Icehouse held a food drive in November and the response was wonderful. Quilters are truly giving people. During the week of March 26-31 bring in a donation of non-perishable food items and receive 20% off your purchase that day. We will take the donated items to the Grayling Help Center. Dear Friends,
Winter is in the air, time to get those quilting projects out and start working on them. We’ve had a great fall and believe it or not we’re starting to think about the new spring fabrics that will start coming in the beginning of the year. We’re always working a little ahead of time here. In fact I have already ordered some Christmas fabric for next year, hard to believe. The family is well. Cody is doing great in school and Ted continues to work at DuBois Lumber and cleans sewing machines at night. Well, no Cabin Fever here, grab your cup of tea, find your favorite chair and read through the newsletter to see what we have planned.
We start with our Class Open House on Saturday January 21st from 11-2. This is a great time to see all of the class models and meet some of the teachers. When you sign up on this day you will also receive a discount on your class supplies. We do have a couple of spots left in the Sue Nickels Retreat which is January 5-8. Margie is teaching our beginners quilting class, Quick Quilts. This class starts with the cutting and ends with the quilting. It’s a great time to learn to quilt. We have the cutest pattern called Calendar Quilts, its has a wall hanging for every month of the year, and Lynn is going to teach you how to make one a month. She’s also teaching a Quilted Jacket class, Kids Pillowcase Class, pincushion class and the Serendipity Quilt Class. We’re keeping her busy, trying to keep her out of trouble. Margie is also teaching a couple of other quilt classes, be sure to come in and see the models. Pam has a Painting class planned and Nancy Webster is teaching another embroidery retreat and helping me teach the T-Shirt retreat in March. Be sure to read all of the articles on the other events happening at The Icehouse this winter. Like I said no Cabin Fever here, to much to do.
As always thank you all for your continued support. I truly appreciate all of you. We’re going to celebrate our 32nd year, thanks! As I’m writing this Beth has not had her baby yet, but it’s getting close!!! We’ll let you know on facebook, so be sure to friend us.

Begin Thursday evening with Sue’s Show and Tell and review of her 2011 teaching experiences. Bring a show and tell with you from a previous retreat or a quilt project you have from the past year. Friday morning will begin our exploration of the feather design and more specifically the whole cloth feather concept Sue is working on for her new book.
Sue has used the feather design successfully on many of her quilts. The feather is the ideal design for free motion quilting and is easier than you think. Students can design their own unique feather project or use one of the many designs Sue will provide. Move on learning the skills to successfully free motion quilt these great designs! Fall in love with Feathers!

Sew and Share Days at The Icehouse are days that we reserve the classroom for YOU! Come on in...bring in a project...applique...quilting... Share the laughter. Share ideas. Make new friends. You might choose to come in and use the extra large tables to layer and baste your quilt. Bring friends and sew together. Perhaps just to visit for a cup of coffee. Whenever you have a question, you can get assistance from The Icehouse Staff. We'll make every effort to assist you in achieving your goals for the day. Jot the dates on 'your' calendar. Give us a call if you want us to reserve a table for a layer and baste project.A stamp collector doesn't use his stamps to mail letters.
